I have been waiting all my life for this book!
This is nothing less than a life changing book. What Barry Long has to say about love is so important in these times, this is what everyone wants but no one knows how to make real.
My partner and I have put his teaching into practice and have found a totally different perception of love, and each other opening up to us. It's so beautiful! I am so grateful to Barry Long and amazed that more people aren't aware of this whole other spiritual dimension to making love. i would say that if you want this deeper, more real sort of love in your life you've really got to go for it and your partner too, otherwise it's just another book and you won't 'get' it. But even if you're single, you should read this book! If i had read this years ago i could have saved myself a lot of heartache. And if you are in partnership and you try this, it will make your love grow in a way you could not imagine.

A unique and challenging perspective
In this book, Barry Long spells out his vision of human sexuality, its failings, and the ways in which we can restore it to its original divinity. While influenced by tantra, this book is completely different than many other 'manuals' for sacred sexuality. Long is clear, concise, and at times quite blunt as he lays out both the obstacles to sexual union and the methods to overcome them. He is never overly technical, which I greatly appreciated in reading this book. The material is presented in a grounded and matter-of-fact way, but also with respect and a deep spiritual understanding.

If you are looking for a book that focuses on 'techniques' (i.e. breathwork, positions, mantras, etc.) this is certainly not the book for you. Long in several places argues that the majority of tantric teachers espouse practices that do little more than excite the body--and his message is completely the opposite. The book is broken into seven chapters. Each of these chapters contains practical advice for navigating relationships. Most of these chapters also challenge the view that relationships should all progress in the same direction, towards an exclusive permanent marriage with children.

Loving Being Single suggests that you don't need to be in a relationship to be happy. Navigating Non-Monogamy tackles the idea that exclusivity is always preferable. Staying Childless by Choice takes on the pressure for everyone to have kids. On Never Getting Married discusses the reasons for not forming a legal union. And Knowing When To Split faces how sometimes ending a relationships is the best option.

Two chapters are a bit different...

Love, love, love it! It has forever changed the way I *see* lovemaking and also the way I do it~~

It takes so much pressure off men to "perform" and brings to light the lovely way our genitals communicate if you can just relax and be conscious of the moment.

I now understand what making love really means and how to do it.

Enriching but perhaps a step to far for some?

Lovely book! I did learn a great deal. But the authors focus on "cool" passion and suggest staying away from "hotness" (such as oral sex and clitoral stimulation). I am reading two other tantra books (Urban Tantra and Tantra for Erotic Empowerment) that combine the two approaches and encompass more/different forms of love making techniques. For me, the latter two are a better fit.
