Excellent book!
There are a lot of books out there on yoga--some touch on the concept of "yoga and fertility"--but this is the only one that I've found that does such an excellent job linking yoga and fertility together!

This book describes a number of different topics under that heading, including why certain poses are appropriate for increasing good blood flow to pelvic region and follicle stimulation to produce good quality eggs. Where many yoga books will discuss form with some yoga history, this book is unique because discusses which poses are crucial to do at which phases of the cycle (menstrual and even IVF!) by backing up the information with biological knowledge and yoga tradition. Lastly, I really appreciate this book because it not only focuses on the concept of "yoga and fertility" with pregnancy in mind--but also expands that definition to broadened the idea of fertility to our bodies being a fertile ground at any point that you come to yoga. During this very trying period...
Fantastic Book!
The book does a great job of laying out easy to follow routines. I've gone to yoga classes for years, but I've never felt comfortable doing a routine at home, at least not until now. I simply follow the routine for the half of the cycle that relates to me, knowing that each position has a specific purpose for nourishing and supporting my body. I'd highly recommend this book!

Clear and easy to follow
I have been told that I should avoid strenuous exercise to conceive, (I am in my forties and trying to get pregnant for the first time!) so I was happy to find this book on yoga and fertility. Not only will I get some daily exercise but the authors have written clear explanations of how each pose will enhance fertility. The yoga routines are simple enough for a beginner, but there are also intermediate routines for those who might have more experience. The instructions and pictures are very clear and helpful. Supplemental information on lifestyle, diet, and other "alternative" approaches to fixing infertility are thorough and informative. An excellent book, that has given me hope in my quest to have a baby, in spite of what my doctors are telling me!

Approximately 16 millions Americans now practice yoga on a regular basis. Devotees can't rave enough about this ancient art of meditation, breathing, and physical postures that calms the mind and slims the body.

Unlike fitness fads, yoga is worth the hype. The postures stretch and tone lean muscle mass and sculpt a strong and slender physique-burning up to 400 calories in a 90-minute session. But yoga does something even better. It's proven to reduce the biggest cause of weight gain-stress-which 43% of Americans say makes them overeat.

This definitive volume features:

- every essential pose to help readers lose weight and transform their bodies

- Total Body Yoga: targeted workouts in 15 minutes or less

- core-strengthening routines for hotter, more satisfying sex

- a healthy, mindful eating plan centered around calming, cleansing foods

Covering everything from basic postures to relaxation techniques to avoiding common injuries, The Women's Health Big Book of Yoga is the only guide readers need to achieve their fittest, healthiest, happiest selves.

Review :
Wonderful Yoga Encyclopedia
I just got this book today, so I haven't had a chance to go through every single page, but I am so impressed! It includes:

* a brief overview of the history of yoga
* language of yoga
* benefits of yoga
* answers to common questions on yoga
* touches on some of the deeper spiritual aspects of yoga (enough to give a taste of it, but not to overwhelm)
* how yoga keeps you fit
* conscious eating and even includes a sample meal plan with a few recipes!

That's just the first 40 pages :) THEN the book goes onto:

* a thorough break down of every essential yoga pose with beautiful photographic spreads that have anatomical cues
* fun 15 minute sequences you can do at home to target different parts of the body (ie.legs, arms, butt, etc...), special health-focused sequences (ie. pms, hangover, carpal tunnel, back pain, etc...), performance sequences (ie. basketball, golf, climbing, etc.), emotional health (ie. anxiety,...
Critical Review From an Experienced Instructor
Summary:

This book is dangerous. I’m honestly concerned that someone will hurt themselves with this book.
This book would get torn apart in a peer review, like what I'm doing. The author is a contributing magazine editor. That alone raises some flags on its purpose and credibility.
This book should not have been written. It adds nothing to the subject of yoga and is intended purely to reap profit from buyers. Practitioners are better off not using it.
Far better options exist for yoga books. My favorite being David Swenson’s http://www.amazon.com/Ashtanga-Yoga-The-Practice-Manual/dp/1891252089/ref=tmm_other_meta_binding_title_0?ie=UTF8&qid=1362513861&sr=8-3

Issues with this Book:

• Way too pro-yoga. Yoga is not a panacea for every mental and physical woe, though this book suggests it is. You won't suddenly fix your health problems, chronic anxiety, or get ripped muscles. It can certainly help with those, but the book...
Just what you need
I teach yoga and a student brought a copy to class to ask my opinion. I spent some time with it and discovered that Kathryn Budig has created a book very much like herself--it's practical, informative, and downright entertaining. She appreciates the fact that many woman have incorporated yoga into their lives for all kinds of practical reasons, but mainly because it makes them feel good. She provides all of the basic information a beginner or an experienced yogini might need about the many questions that can arise during your practice, and has also shown how to use some of the various poses as a remedy for many of the common challanges we face in our daily lives. If you're interested, she has covered pretty much the full gamut of yoga topics (breathing techniques, dealing with injuries, meditation, "I'm not flexible", etc.) and you can pick and choose to read about those that pique your curiosity. The photography is stunning, and the photos are of real people who have developed...

Review :
The art of relaxation made easy.
This book is all about letting go by doing nothing purposefully. Judith Lasater, a very experienced Iyengar yoga teacher, shows the reader in words and pictures how to use everyday props (e.g., blankets, pillows, walls and floors) to travel the highway to the state of relaxation. I had the opportunity to practice restorative yoga with Ms. Lasater in Montana about two years ago and I can attest to the fact this yoga works to relax both the mental and physical muscles in the body if practiced regularly. Since most people can't go off to Montana to practice yoga, this book is the next best thing to being there.

What so many people are looking for!
As a yoga instructor teaching an active, flowing style of yoga, I would have several students ask me if I could also teach yoga just for relaxation and stress-reduction. Initially, I was a little stumped as to what I could teach that would still provide a tremendous benefit while using very little "exercise" (other than meditation). Then I came across this book. She not only educates her readers about stress, she shows us specific poses to counteract that stress. And she explains clearly what benefit we are receiving from each pose. The "General Restorative Practice" is amazing. You truly do feel relaxed and renewed. She even offers a shorter series for those days when time is too scarce or while traveling. And the series for pregnancy is a God-Send for those expecting! I have just begun using these restorative poses in my classes and my students absolutley love it!

A comprehensive guide for using yoga to relieve stress
This book is written by Judith Lasater, renowned yoga instructor and physical therapist, and it centers around restorative yoga, a form of yoga practice aimed specifically and reducing stress through increasing relaxation. Restorative yoga has its basis in the Iyengar tradition, which encourages use of props to allow one to relax more deeply into the yoga postures. In this book, a wide variety of specialty props are used; Lasater helpfully breaks down the props into necessary and optional categories, and she offers suggestions for everyday objects which can be substituted for the traditional yoga equipment.

The book is very well-organized into several general themes. Part One provides an introduction to restorative yoga as well as a description of the most important posture, basic relaxation pose; it also includes both a general restorative practice and a practice for busy days. Part Two focuses on specific issues, including lower back pain, headaches, insomnia,...
